Wichita Falls' Fox Hill Restaurant Featured on 'The Texas Bucket List'

Fox Hill Restaurant Gains National Spotlight

Big news for our local dining scene – Fox Hill Restaurant & Gardens, a Wichita Falls restaurant known for its farm-to-table approach, was recently featured on the nationally syndicated TV program The Texas Bucket List, showcasing its unique farm-to-table approach and lush on-site gardens.. Each week, host Shane McAuliffe showcases unique Texas destinations, and this weekend he’s turning the spotlight on Fox Hill. According to a report in the Times Record News, McAuliffe will even sit down with Fox Hill’s chef and its gardener, highlighting what makes this spot so special. For those curious about must-visit eateries in our area, the upcoming Fox Hill Texas Bucket List episode is sure to put one of the best restaurants in Wichita Falls on the map in a big way. Local fans are brimming with pride and excitement – it’s not every day a Wichita Falls restaurant gets statewide attention for its culinary excellence and hometown charm.

Local Farm-to-Table Dining at Its Best

Fox Hill’s on-site gardens at sunset – the source of its farm-to-table ingredients.
What sets Fox Hill apart is its genuine local farm-to-table dining philosophy. In fact, the restaurant sources many of its ingredients from its own extensive gardens right on the property. The Texas Bucket List preview teases that Fox Hill “will show off how they make their dishes with items from their nine-acre garden in the middle of the city." That means the herbs, vegetables, and fruits on your plate likely grew just a stone’s throw from your table! Fox Hill opened in 2018 and has provided locally grown, farm-to-fork meals to the community ever since. This beautifully restored 1922 home-turned-restaurant sits on a lush multi-acre site, allowing chefs to harvest produce at peak freshness. It’s farm-to-table in the truest sense – you can taste the difference in every seasonal dish. And while the cuisine is upscale and inventive, it remains rooted in local Texas soil (quite literally), giving diners a flavorful connection to the land. Fox Hill’s commitment to quality ingredients and high culinary standards shines through in each bite, earning it a reputation as a dining experience that feeds the soul as much as the stomach.

Exceptional Service and Local Acclaim

Great food is only part of the Fox Hill experience – the other part is the exceptional customer service and warm hospitality. Patrons often comment on how welcomed they feel from the moment they step in. (In the restaurant’s own words, it’s all about “Heritage, Hospitality, Heart.”) One diner even remarked in a review that “the only thing outshining the food is the amazing, and genuinely friendly, customer service” at Fox Hill. It’s this blend of gourmet fare and personal touch that has made Fox Hill a local favorite.

Unsurprisingly, Fox Hill boasts plenty of local acclaim. Many in the community consider it among the best restaurants in Wichita Falls for fine dining. “Fox Hill is one of the best restaurants in town,” says Renee Adkins, a Wichita Falls real estate agent and resident. “It’s always a delight to bring friends and family there. The combination of farm-fresh flavors and friendly service is hard to beat.” Such endorsements echo the consensus of online reviews as well – one TripAdvisor reviewer called Fox Hill “hands down, and by far, the best restaurant in Wichita Falls” for its use of seasonal, local ingredients. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a lovely night out, Fox Hill has a way of making every guest feel like family. The staff’s attentive care and the kitchen’s culinary artistry work in tandem, creating an atmosphere of casual elegance that keeps locals and visitors raving.

Honoring John Hirschi’s Wichita Falls Legacy

Fox Hill’s rise to prominence is also a story of local legacy. The restaurant was the passion project of the late John Hirschi – a significant figure in Wichita Falls. John Hirschi was well-known as the founder of Hirschi Realtors in 1966, where he worked until he sold the company in the 1983 to focus on civic service and philanthropy. After a successful career in business, Hirschi turned his love of sustainable living into Fox Hill Restaurant & Gardens. In 2016, he brought this vision to life at the historic property on Kemp Boulevard, reflecting his lifelong love of organic gardening. He poured heart and resources into transforming the old 8-acre estate into a dining destination that could serve the community in a new way.

Earlier in 2025, John Hirschi passed away at the age of 91, marking the end of an era for Wichita Falls. However, his spirit lives on through Fox Hill and the many contributions he made to the city. Locals remember him not just for his business acumen or the fact that the Fox Hill restaurant exists because of him, but also for his generosity and civic leadership (he once even served as a state representative and was named Wichitan of the Year for his lifetime of service). Every time we enjoy a meal at Fox Hill, we’re also celebrating Hirschi’s legacy – his belief in Wichita Falls, in sustainability, and in the power of community. The TV feature is a fitting tribute, shining a light on what John Hirschi built and the continued excellence of his team.
